The American Safe Room ballistic door is perfect for your safe room.
This door features a 3/8 inch thick ballistic plate that gives UL 752, level 8 protection – withstands multiple hits with 7.62 NATO ball.
It also has massive steel hinges with bronze bushings and grease zirks (pencil for scale), a swinging gun port with an internal cam latch, a wide angle viewer on each side of the gun port, a pry-resistant steel lip around the door leaf, and a steel frame that is welded to the door for easy installation.
It comes in two standard sizes: 32 x 72 inches and 36 x 80 inches – plus any reasonable custom size.
On this particular door, the customer wanted the gun port and viewers mounted low and a stepover frame threshold. We can easily mount the gun port and viewers higher and fabricate the frame so it can be mounted in a doorway with a flat threshold.
Inside this door
An internal frame fabricated from square steel tubing keeps the ballistic plate flat and resists deformation when the door is attacked.
Let’s talk about door seals
We have two adjustable rotating cam latches that suck the door into the frame, compressing the EPDM closed cell door seal. This is a much better seal than you get with a vault type safe room door. The pins in a vault door do not have any leverage to suck the door into the frame so they have to use oversized hollow automotive type seals. Our door seal is 1/4 inch thick and we compress it down to half that thickness with the cam latches. We have a positive steel on steel stop so the door seal does not get over-compressed and take a set. Many of our doors have been used in industrial applications that have a high traffic volume for years without any problems. We also have an option of putting a fire rated seal outside the compression seal to further resist structural fires.
This is the inside of the gun port that is securely shut with smaller cam latch and the two wide angle viewers – one on each side of the gun port and the pull handle to pull the door closed from within the safe room.
